New Hyundai Verna unveiled in China, to hit India shores in 2017.

Ever since Hyundai first launched the Verna in 2005, since then the company has given its midsize sedan a series of updates and generation changes which included the Verna transform, Fluidic Verna, Verna 4S. The South Korean car maker has now unveiled the all new generation Verna in China with a bolder exterior design and new interiors.

Let’s find out if the New Hyundai Verna is more than just a re-designed sedan or a leap ahead.

Look at the new Verna, head on and you will be easily reminded of its bigger sibling the new Elantra and even the Genesis for that matter.

Most of the concept design has been retained on the production car as well.

The nose bears a new bonnet design, new angular headlamps with projectors and led day time running lamps, bolder front grille with chrome trimmed strips and thick chrome surround, while the sporty new bumper houses an Elite i20 inspired air dam and square shaped fog lamps.

The side profile receives new bigger alloy wheels and a waistline that runs along the length of the car and merges into the boot. The Coupe like profile has been retained.

The rear receives new wider taillamps and a sleek bootlid with a clean, neat design, while the license plate holder is now located in the new rear bumper along with reflectors.

The interior has been revamped with an all new but simple looking dashboard design.

The layout looks inspired from the new Elantra. The dash gets black treatment and the touchscreen for the infotainment system and air con vents are finished off in dull silver.

Tech specs and engines of New Hyundai Verna

The new Sedan measures 4,380mm in length, 1,728mm in width and 1,460mm in height.  The increased length of the car means passenger space at front and rear will be increased along with better headroom and visibility.

Power for this new midsize sedan comes through four engine options. A 1.4 litre petrol developing 104bhp and a 1.6 litre producing 121bhp, while the diesel powered variants of the 1.4 will deliver 89 bhp, and the bigger capacity 1.6 litre diesel scrapes out 127bhp.

Transmission options will range from a 6 speeds for the manual as well as the autobox. However the autobox will power only the 1.6 litre variants.

New Hyundai Verna Exterior side 1

Hyundai has once again given the Verna sedan a new aggressive look which has moved up an ace with the production car staying almost true to the concept shown some time back.

However the Korean arm’s new sedan will reach India only next year and will give the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Nissan Sunny, Renault Scala some tough competition.

The other interesting thing to note is that most of the midsize sedans mentioned here are due for updates soon too and the fight could only intensify with the Verna’s arrival.
