Volkswagen India to launch new Tiguan SUV and Passat sedan in 2017

Volkswagen India announces new product line-up for 2017 – New Passat & Tiguan to be introduced.

Volkswagen India announced the line-up and strategy for the year 2017.

The company will launch two new premium products – Tigaun SUV and Passat sedan in India its popular global products in the Indian market. Strong products will be backed by an enhanced network of sales and service outlets.

With new launches VW will expand its offerings and will also continue to enhance the value of its current models like Ameo, Vento and Polo range.

The Tiguan

The new Tigaun will be launched in India after showcasing the product at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Tiguan SUV is based on the MQB (modular transverse matrix) platform and will be assembled at the Aurangabad plant. (SKODA Kodiaq too will be made in India, based on the MQB and assembled in the same plant.)

The SUV will be powered with a 2.0L TDI engine mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Expect the company to offer a good equipment list as the vehicle will have to compete with the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Hyundai Santa Fe.

The Passat

The New Passat too was shown at the Auto Expo but in a Hybrid version. This version may not come to India soon and the new Passat for India will be powered with a 2.0L TDI engine mated to a 6-speed DSG gearbox. The luxury sedan is also based on the MQB platform.

For the first time in India Volkswagen Passat will offer 9 airbags providing additional safety for the passengers. (Reference point – Toyota offers 7 airbags in the Camry)

The GTI

Volkswagen introduced the hottest hatch on Indian roads: The GTI. The badge that carries with it, 40 years of legacy and is loved by petrol heads across the globe. This Limited Edition 3 door GTI will continue to be on sale and comes equipped with a 1.8L 4-cylinder TSI engine mated to a 7-speed automatic DSG transmission producing a blistering 141 kW (192 PS) of raw power.

Volkswagen has not announced the launch dates but we can expect the official announcement soon. VW will also offer 2017 models of the Polo and Vento with new features and basic changes.
