Toyota to expand Fortuner range with 2.5L, 3.0L AWD Auto

Toyota Kirloskar Motors, the Indian arm of Japanese car maker Toyota, will add new variant to the Fortuner line-up. Toyota will introduce a smaller 2.4 D-4D diesel engine and a top of the line 3.0 Diesel all-wheel drive with an automatic option.

The 2.5 will form the entry variant and is expected to be priced around Rs. 21 lakhs. Listening to customer voice, Toyota also plans to introduce the all-wheel drive variant with an automatic transmission.

The 2.5 litre motor will be offered with a 5 speed manual transmission and will develop 106 Kw (144PS )/3,400 rpm and max torque of 343 Nm /1,600-2,800 rpm. The 3.0 diesel all-wheel drive will see no changes expect for the addition of a 5 speed automatic transmission.

Currently the Fortuner is available in 5 variants:

  • 4×2 Manual – 21,81,567

  • 4×2 Manual (TRD Sportivo) – 22,42,843
  • 4×2 Automatic (5 Speed)  – 22,79,94
  • 4×2 Automatic (TRD Sportivo) – 23,41,223

The new base variant could start at Rs. 20.80 lakhs and top variant could be priced about Rs. 24 lakhs.

We expect the new Toyota Fortuner variants to be launched later in the year, just before the festive season to help boost demand which seen a dip with sales below the 1000 mark. The Fortuner still commands a top position and is bestselling SUV above Rs. 20 lakhs. Off-late the Fortuner has been witnessing competition from MU-7 and the New Santa Fe and SsangYong Rexton.
