Scoop: Mercedes-Benz to launch GLA Class SUV in October

Mercedes-Benz GLA caught testing

Mercedes-Benz is gearing to launch the GLA Class SUV in the Indian market and as per our sources the launch is most likely to happen in October before the Diwali festive season. The GLA Class SUV was showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo and has also been spotted in Pune which must come for homologation.

A few dealers have also started accepting bookings with an initial booking amount of Rs. 1 lakh.

The GLA will be the first offering from the German car maker in the luxury compact SUV segment which was introduced by BMW with the launch of X1 and followed by Audi with the Q3. The GLA will be offered with a diesel engine only initially and the petrol option could be offered later.

The GLA is more over a crossover and looks a lot like the A-Class with a slightly more rugged styling with a 6 cm taller and 12 cm longer.

The GLA is a front wheel drive like the Q3 and is also available in four wheel drive. We could expect the GLA 220 CDI 4Matic with four wheel drive to make it to India.
