Scoop – Maruti Suzuki Stingray to be the 2017 WagonR, new VXi+ trim added

Maruti Suzuki must be busy with the Ignis launch and the upcoming Baleno RS, but there is more in store. India’s largest car maker may have shifted focus to premium cars, but it has not forgotten their volumes models.

The company is all set to launch the 2017 WagonR. Maruti Suzuki will discontinue the Stingray model and it will be now be known as WagonR.

Confusing?

Basically Marui will discontinue the current WagonR and will re-name the Stingray as WagonR according to our sources. There will also be a new trim VXI+ which will be the new top trim.

We also feel Maruti Suzuki may simply discontinue the Stingray and introduce this new version as Wagon VXi+.

What are the changes?

There 2017 WagonR will simply get the same exteriors offered on the Stingray while interiors are revised and now come with Beige & Black dual tone color. Seats upholstery is also beige in color similar to the current WagonR and the 2017 model will be available in both manual and AMT (automatic) transmission options.

There are no other mechanical changes and the car will continue to be powered by all aluminium light weight, 1.0 K-Series engine. The car is also available with a factory fitted CNG Kit. Expect a small price increase in the tune of 1-2%.

The WagonR is a very successful model and will receive a full model change in 2018-19. In November 2016 the company introduced limited edition “WagonR Felicity” as the car has been among India’s top five best selling cars for the last five years in a row.

Since launch the Maruti Suzuki has sold over 1.8 million cars in the Indian market.
