Nissan to launch new X-Trail in India in October

Nissan is betting on SUV’s to help strengthen its position in the Indian market. The Japanese car maker is planning to introduce the all new X-Trail SUV during the Diwali festive season in India. The X-Trail started the Nissan innings in the Indian market way back before the company made its official debut with the launch of Micra hatch.

The new X-Trail positioned as a crossover SUV is designed to target customers who want t good looking SUV with car liking driving characteristics. Unlike the previous generation boxy design which was discontinued in 2014, new SUV looks sleek, stylish and modern.

Based on the new CMF the X-trail is is 17mm longer (4,643mm) than the previous generation model, and has a 76mm longer wheelbase that helps deliver more space inside. The new model is also 30mm wider and 5mm lower than the previous car and the ground clearance is maintained at 210mm.

India could most likely get the 2.0 dCi with 2WD and 2.5 dCi with 2WD & 4WD engine options. The 2.0 dCi develops 106 kW @6000 rpm max power and 200 Nm @4400 rpm torque. While the 2.5 dCi produces 126 kW @6000 rpm high torque of 226 Nm @4400 rpm. Transmission options include a 6 Speed manual and X-Tronic CVT.

The new X-Trail is also available with a 7 seater options and this is most likely to make it to India.

The new X-Trail will be sold as CBU in India and could be priced in the range of Rs. 30-32 lakhs. The X-Trail will compete with the likes of Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda CR-V, SKODA Yeti and Renault Koleos.
