German Luxury auto maker Mercedes-Benz has announced the launch of the new GLC-Class SUV in India on June 2, 2016. The GLC-Class SUV replaces the GLK-Class SUV (which was not launched in India) and sits between the GLA-Class and GLE-Class in the Mercedes-Benz SUV line-up.

The GLC-SUV was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.  The GLC features similar design language like rest of the MB portfolio. The SUV comes with LED headlamps similar to those of the C-Class, a large two-slat chrome radiator grille,  roof rails, dual exhausts and LED tail lights.

The interiors are quite similar to the C, with piano black dashboard, leather upholstery,  a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a larger screen for infotainment system, dual-zone climate control. Safety features include a rear view camera, collision prevention assist plus, 8 airbags, ABS, ESP, brake assist and the entire gamut of safety features offered on  Mercedes-Benz cars..

The GLC is expected to be sold as a CBU initially in two versions – diesel GLC 220d and GLC 300 4MATIC petrol. The diesel engine on the GLC is the same engine that powers the MB C-Class. The 2143cc diesel engine produces 170hp at @3000-4200 rpm and 400nm of torque @1400-2800 rpm. The 1991cc petrol engine develops 245hp and offers 370nm of torque. 0-100 km/h acceleration happens in just 6.5 seconds. The top speed of the petrol variant is 222 km/h. Both the engines are mated to a 9 speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. The all-wheel drive offers 5 different driving modes; Comfort, ECO, Sport, Sport+ and Individual.

The GLC-Class will compete with the likes of Audi Q5, BMW X3, Land Rover Discovery Sport and Volvo XC60 in the Indian market.
