Maruti Suzuki Wagon R AMT

Maruti Suzuki will extend the AMT technology to the best seller Wagon R with launch most likely to happen in November. The Celerio was the first car to be equipped with AMT automatic gear box in 2014.  India’s largest car maker plans to launch the Wagon R and Stingray AMT variants this year.

The Wagon R AMT and Stingray AMT have been spotted in the Gurgoan plant where the Wagon R series are manufactured. After tasting success with the Celerio and Alto K10, the next Wagon R could further help to boost sales of automatic cars in India.

Recently Magneti Marelli inaugurated their dedicated AMT manufacturing facility in Gurgoan. This will help to further bring the costs lower and also decrease the supply constraints Maruti has been facing as the company had to import the gear boxes all this time.

The Wagon R and Stingray are powered by the 1.0-litre K10 petrol engine that produces out 68 PS of power and 90Nm of torque. The AMT variant could be offered on LXi and VXi trims for the Wagon R and VXi trim on the Stingray.

The AMT versions could be priced at a premium of Rs. 30,000-35,000 depending on the variant.
