Isuzu MU-X to offer stiff competition to new Fortuner & Endeavour.

Isuzu has begun testing the MU-X which replaces the MU-7 in the Indian market which has been on sale in the Indian market since 2013.

The MU-X which is based on the new D-Max platform shares many components with the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. The Chevrolet Trailblazer and MU-X also share the basic underpinnings.

Internationally the MU-X comes with two powertrain options– a 1.99-litre 150hp and a 3.0-litre 177 hp diesel engine. Some markets also get the 2.5 VGS Turbo Intercooler Diesel Engine. India will most likely get the top of the range 3.0 litre diesel engine which churns out 177 hp of max power and 380 Nm of max torque.

Transmission options include 6 speed manual and 6 speed automatic. The SUV will be offered in 4×2 drive option and 4×4 may be considered in the future.

The SUV comes with a seven seat layout.

Styling is butch with Projector headlights, large chrome grille and wheel arches which covers the 17 inch alloy wheels. The side gets Katana line where the Isuzu designers have taken inspiration from Japanese culture and integrated the elegant curve of a Katana (a traditional Japanese sword) into the doors.

Interior design is functional 8” Touchscreen Audio System with digital connectivity.

In terms of safety the SUV gets a 5-star ANCAP safety rating, 6 airbags, Reversing Camera, Rear Park Assist, Emergency Brake Assist, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Traction Control System, Electronic Stability Control and Hill Start Assist.

The MU-X will be locally assembled at Isuzu’s Sri City plant in Andra Pradesh. The SUV in terms of styling looks a lot better and will be able to compete with the likes of new Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Trailblazer and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
